WOW! try this photo 'technique'...

EddieF Nov 10, 2007 07:51 AM

I'm sure you're all anxious for me to get more snakes so there will be some variety in my photos. But Belle shed recently and I tried something new to photograph her.

I put her on a glass coffee table, and set my digital camera (nothing fancy but it does have many presets) on 'cuisine.' (don't tell Belle.) I guess it focuses just on the foreground, uses the flash but retains bright colors. The room was lit, so I was pleasantly surprised when the background almost went completely to black!

I couldn't resist the opportunity to snap one from underneath while she was there...

good idea!! Try tapeing some black card board paper on the underside of the table for some cool contrast also.

EddieF, this is why we love newbies! You can always contribute no matter if you have one snake or a hundred. (or a thousand, I guess)People are always asking for vent shots, and that is the best one I think Ive evr seen posted on here.

This camera is a really cool Olympus 720SW, 7.1 megapixels. It's small enough to take everywhere, but the cool thing is, it's totally waterproof! I take it fishing and try to get underwater shots, and of course if it gets wet it's fine.

Thanks for the compliments!

At the last show we were at, my wife and I started talking about maybe breeding Belle. But I am really starting from scratch there, I need to read a book or something. She can't be much older than a year.

1. How old before they can breed?
2. Where would I get the lavender male you speak of? Truthfully, a lot of these snakes look similar to me but would look obviously different to you.
3. Can you recommend a book or website with some basic breeding info so I could start to educate myself on the process?

Thanks.
Ed.

She is big enough where she will be ready next spring if you decide to get an adult male. But I would reccomend against getting one from just any source. Adults are kinda a crap shoot. You may get a problem snake or you may not.

If you want a neonate I have some from the smae line and a matter of fact my female that looks identical to yours produced some. I bred her to a sulfur lavender male so your babies will come out really colored up than normal extremes.

I love that top snake.

I think at some point you and I should have a phone conversation about this...

Thanks!

My Kisatchie looked pretty cool from underneath...

He's a handsome snake, but this photo didn't come out as well as Belle's, maybe I was too close. Neither snake was particularly fond of the exercise, so I really only had them on the table for a second.
