mixing substrates?

quanno May 22, 2003 01:50 PM

I finally finished the new terrarium. I have enough repta-litter to cover the bottom, also have enough calci-sand to cover the bottom. my lizards have grown up on calci-sand and dont have a problem with eating it (meaning they dont). I was considering mixing repta-litter with some calci-sand to give it a better look (natural colors) is this safe? would it look like crap? I was also considering going and buying some bran. Is it a good substrate, i've only heard one person talk about it. sorry for the rambling... just trying to get final decisions made. oh yea, terrarium is 5.5ft long, 3 ft tall, 1.5ft deep.

I'd dump the cali-sand QUICK! I've never used it and have only heard horrible things about it. I use Wheat Bran for My two. I love it. It clumps when It's wet so just get one of those cat pan sloted scoops and there you go. Nice and easy. But Definatly dump the cali-sand..... Just cause you don't see them eat it, doesn't mean they aren't....
