East TX aug 21

Herped around east bay the other night and thought i'd post my finds. It was windy as all get out and within an hour it started pouring, but it didn't stop the snakes from moving or me from looking for em. I thought twice about carrying a snake hook, as those things are like golf clubs, and the lightning was everywhere. Anyway, here it is:
1-AOR broad banded water
2-AOR ribbons
1-DOR ribbon
2-AOR mississippi green waters
1-AOR gulf salt marsh
2-AOR marsh brown snakes
1-AOR gulf crayfish snake
2-AOR cottonmouths
1-DOR unidentified snake skeleton

Thanks,
Brandon Bowers

Hey Dude,
A night that provides a clarkii and a regina is a great night.
I have heard reports of farancia, streckerii, and S.o.obscura all coming from that area as well. Have you ever encounterd any of those species out that way ?

never seen farancia period(but wouldn't mind seeing em). streckeri could probably be around the area, but i doubt you would find pigmies actually in the refuge. based on the habitat description i've read, the obscura seems likely to be the same kind of situation, though if you can find atrox in galveston,i'm sure redbellies and pigmies are possible at anahuac. have you seen getula holbrooki or n e transversa in the area?
E-mail me next time you're going out there.

I have never found any holbrooki in the anahuac area but have a friend who has found several. Andy Maddox(Snakeguy88) and I flipped 4 in one day in Freeport earlier this yr and I have seen countless while rd cruising in Brazoria Cty this yr. As for the transversa I have seen a dor on the rds leading to the refuge but none in it. Andy and I did however find a Transversa with stripes running down it's spine in Freeport. I know there are some pretty recent sightings for the streckerii in Chambers cty so maybe one day I will get lucky. I'll shoot you an email next time Andy and I go out.......Scott Wahlberg

Do you fellas ever herp in Louisiana?
I'm currently stationed over here in New Orleans and I'm hard pressed to find people that love to go out and explore the wildlife of La. My wife [bleep]es about the mosquitos and most of my friends are more into PS2 than enjoying nature. I guess it's a sign of the times but, If you guys ever want to go herping here in La please shoot me an e-mail. I'll be making my way to the West here in a Couple weeks so maybe we could hook up and burn some fuel.
Later,
