BHP Cycling Temps

lichanura Nov 11, 2007 09:25 AM

I am curious about what the lowest day time high and night time low temperatures used during the cycling of the BHP. Southern Cross suggests at the lowest point in the cycling the DTH should be about 75F and the NTL about 65F for about three months. The NTL sures sounds low to me. May I ask what some of you think and what temps you use? Thanks.

Sounds about right to me.
Cheers.

Thay can tolerate even cooler. Last night my BHP pair was cooled to a few degrees below 65f and this morning the male was aggressively spurring the female and later locked up. Cool ntl's like that make them very interested in each other.

Wow! Then what is your Day Time High?

I'm sort of new to these guys and haven't done all the reading I could but are you saying that they mate at the beginning of their cooling period as opposed to when they warm back up after semi-brumation temps?

Yes, that is correct. However, there are two schools of thought. Some put them together at the beginning of the cooling cycle and others feel that it is too much strain on the female and introduce them a few weeks after the cycle hits the lowest point. About 65 degrees. I have 2.3 right now and I am trying it both ways. I have a pair together now and am waiting until the first of the year to put the other pair together when the cycle is two weeks into the lowest point. The pair together now have been observed courting twice and maybe mating. Makes one want to introduce the second pair now.
