Noah died last night

medyssa Nov 11, 2007 10:41 AM

I went out this morning and when I was checking the cages for poo I moved Noah's tail out of the way and noticed he wasnt moving. ITs very upsetting because he was my first male BRB as well as the father of Zeek, Isis, Zoe and Ziggy. So there is no way now for me to prove if Zoe and Ziggy's dorsal stripes were genetic.

Crap.

I'm going back to bed.

This has just been an all around [bleep]ty week. The BEST thing about it is that I finally got to see my new chameleon eat this morning. But then I found Noah dead not 5 minutes later.

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear about his death. Do you know what might have happened? I was hoping to get a dorsal stripe baby from you this summer.

As far as I can tell, natural causes. Noah wasnt hurt from what I could tell feeling up and down his body. He didn't eat last week but then he was a day away from shedding. I got him from a guy off of craigslist two years ago and I dont recall how old the man had said he was.
I guess if I get stripes this year its only from incubation temps, unless their mother produces it without it showing on her. I dont know how that would work. I was hoping for more stripeys as well. Not to mention he produced very bright and pretty young. I still have Dude my other male, but I dont want to breed him to his sister, who was going to be paired up with noah. Now I have to replan my breeding season. And I was going to start putting them together at the end of the month.

Wow that's terrible . It's bad enough losing any, but to lose one as nice as him, that really sucks!

waspinator421 Nov 11, 2007 12:42 PM

If it was natural causes, then there wouldn't be much you could have done. It is a shame to lose such a nice boy. I hope you can find another nice male for your girl.

Yeah I am hoping I can find something soon, it just sucks because I am pretty broke and christmas is coming up, plus I am going to Disneyworld, which I know I will want to spend money there. My new laptop is going to have to wait as well.

wow sorry to hear the bad news i thought i was havin a bad week with my net down yet again and my comp in the shop for repairs. how old was he? and has he showed any signs whatso ever or illness or anythign out of the norm?

medyssa Nov 11, 2007 02:27 PM

I bought him from a man in Berkeley off of Craigslist, he had been kept as a pet but I dont remember how old he had said noah was. I dont think he was more than 10 though. I had him for two years. Both years he produced great litters.
I was handling him yesterday and everything seemed fine, he was active and a bit hostile, but he has always been a bit tempermental. Nothing out of the ordinary. I am keeping a close eye on everyone else today just in case anything shows. Hopefully nothing will.

You wouldnt rather just give him back to me? Lol Im just kidding. I finished burying Noah, someday someone is going to call me up that lives in one of my old houses and say, " I dug up something while I was [planting a rose bush, resodding my yard, putting in an addition] and I found a [snake, rat, bird, turtle, lizard] is it yours?"
Ah well. They can have fun and wonder about all the cigar boxes with random cretures in them. :P

Its a new game!
I would have to say burying a 14 foot burmese would be pretty daunting of a task. Fortunately I am keeping things small. This is definately the biggest grave I have had to dig. Although once I thought of burying all three of my sisters. That would have been hard to keep them quietly gagged the whole time.

Jess,

Your question brought back some bad memories. About 10 years ago, I had a 6 foot Boa Constrictor escape, and to make an epic story short, I had to kill and bury him. Well, I tried to bury him, but the neighbors dog dug up his rotting corpse a week later. Needless to say, the neighbors were not happy about the horrific stench that engulfed the cul-de-sac. I raised that guy from a baby, so it was not a fun experience.

Anyway, sorry to hear of your loss.

Thanks,
Ed

Zeek is the son of two of my boas, Noah, the father, is the one who passed away today and Copper. who will hopefully be up to breeding this year. Dave's Zoe and Ziggy are half-siblings to Zeek, they were also fathered by Noah, but were mothered by Cleo. And hes my favorite, he's not going anywhere.
