Female has gone crazy! Is this normal?

boachris Nov 11, 2007 04:49 PM

I have had my pair together for a while now. They have courted, and I believe they have copulated. They both ate about 10 days ago.

For the past several days, she's been very restless. She rubs on the glass a lot, she's lifting newspaper, and making a mess of her/their cage. She only stops for a bit while she sleeps.

Temps are good, humidity is good, everything is the same as it's been for a while.

Is this normal? Any suggestions? Thanks!!!

Picture of her last night.

Have you seen ovulation? Boas don't really like each other very much after courting is complete. Once she stops producing pharamones they tend to stay on opposite sides of the cage throwing pots and pans at each other and trying to get away....just a though.

I was wondering that too. I'm pretty good at checking on them a couple times a day, and I haven't noticed any ovulation. I did see a little swelling, but no football. What do you think?

I've had at least one female coil up in a circle, perfectly contented after I took the male out. When they were together she showed the best color I've ever seen in her. Does that sound good?

After they are done breeding some females don't like the male around any more. Remove the male .... that should calm her down.

So, I dropped the temps by a couple degrees last night, and I caught them copulating this morning. They were locked up for at least a couple of hours.
Now, she's going nuts again. The paper is a total mess, and she doesn't stop moving! I don't know, but I wish she'd stop pulling up all the paper.

Give her a place to hide, if she doesn't already have one.
She's probably looking for a place to settle down and let the magic happen.

Good call. I put some wrinkled newspaper at one end, and she's partially covered herself in it and they're at it again tonight.

Sorry about the terrible picture. Just glad to get a few before the batteries went dead.

They really like that contact security. Don't have arms or legs, so they like that feeling of snug contact. Otherwise its like slipping and sliding on an ice rink. They need to get a purchase to feel comfortable.

The better the grip, the better the headboard banging. Right!

Maybe people and snakes aren't so different after all! LOL.
Thanks for the advice!
