Self Inflickting wounds

rottenweiler9 Nov 11, 2007 07:23 PM

Has anyone had their retic press so hard that a tooth cuts their mouth? I came home and noticed blood on the glass front of my cage and some on the side of his mouth. I open a little bit of his mouth and see nothing. I am just concerned because he just got over RI, and last weekend he ate and this week he did not.

Thank you

If you're talking about "pushing," then yes. Retics have destroyed their faces by pushing. It's a nasty problem for some, especially males during breeding season. Some get really messy with damage as they use their heads as shovels and relentlessly try to jam their way out of their cages.

A broken tooth is actually quite light compared to others.

I agree, I have a young dwarf tiger that I found one morning with his lower lip hanging out like a piece of hamburger. After a few weeks and a shed it healed well and is now almost gone.
