Super day in Pa.!

A friend of mine took me to a spot to see timbers today and boy did we see them!
While we were looking at a few timbers basking on a rock ledge,my friend was telling me how his father and grandfather used to find up to 50 timbers in one area (back in the day)and even more copperheads, and that they had not seen a copperhead in years now.
Well, he decided to get a better view from the top of the ledge and made the climb. When he gets there he says he can see a small black phase, then he says "hey mike,I see a copperhead",So I made my way to the top and layed eyes on my first copperhead in the wild.In fact from where we were standing we could see the copperhead and 3 different timbers(one timber practically laying on top the copperhead).
In all we saw 9 timbers and one copperhead in about 2 hours.

I remember those days of plenty. In the early seventies in upstate NY we could go to Timber dens and see 35-40 out at once! Considering that they usually spent anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour basking, and only showed a small portion, the dens must have been very populous. I haven't been back there for years, but I've heard the numbers have decreased somewhat...

Finding those den sites is a great way to spot many snakes in one area. How about some pics next time!
