Very bad news...

Travis123 Aug 23, 2003 10:58 PM

Yesterday, I found out that my pet horned frog was dead. I think that some of you may remember that I changed my frog's bedding to bed a beast about 2 weeks ago, and I found out that the piece of gravel was still stuck in him, and that is what killed him, because I had decided to cut him open to see if the bulge was gravel, and that is what it was. I am very upset, and wish that the store never told me to use gravel and that my frog would still be alive...

Wow, I'm very sorry. If you didn't get him that long ago, I'd march right to that store and demand a refund. Not for the money, but to show them a lesson for the bad advice they gave without regard to your feelings, the money you spent, or even the animal's life.

Shame on them! And let this be proof that impactions happen, so to anyone using a similar substrate, please reconsider.

I am sorry to hear that. At least you know the cause of death, and can prevent it when you get another frog. You shouldn't give up on the hobby, there are unfortunate things that happen when we are ill-informed. I had my first toad years ago who died from the same thing your frog died of, because I too kept him in gravel.

I want to tell everyone that I now have a new horned frog. I believe it is a she, and she is a very aggressive eater, unlike my other horned frog, and she is much more active, and is an albino. One thing that is interesting about her, is that she is albino, but in certain times and shades she gets a lime green color to her, and sometimes, she has no green color to her at all. It is wierd and hard to describe, but very neat. Thanks for everyone who responded to this.
