I'm a little worried

shannon20019 Nov 13, 2007 12:08 PM

hey ya'll. My guy has had loose stools about every other day for a week now. He still has a HUGE appetite and seems fine besides having the loose stools. He has been pacing the enclosure, climbing and scratching at the glass occasionally through out the day. temps are all the same 108 basking spot and in the low 90's hot side ambient. I thought maybe it was too hot in there and was maybe causing the runny stools? He is 350g and about 18". thanks!

persistent runny stools can be caused by internal parasites, or feeding too many high water worms such as silkworms etc... instead of crickets. But even with feeding silkworms and hornworms as well as greens, the stools should still be formed and hold their shape (like a raw sausage) but if it seems more watery than this...take a fresh one to your vet for a fecal.

I didn't think about this until a couple of hours ago...we moved his enclosure about a week ago, as we are building his new one in his "old spot". where he is at for now is a much more high traffic area, which he is not used to all the noise from my children, tvs, etc. do you think this may be a stress related thing? either way I'm calling my regular vet tomorrow and seeing what they think and having a fecal done on him..just to be on the safe side.
the only things that I feed him are 3/4" crickets, mealworms, superworms, and salad. I appreciate all of your help!!thanks!

Yes, stress can cause loose stools. You might want to try relocating it to a more secluded area and see if the runny stools clear up within a few days.

The thing about stress is it weakens the immune system, therby paving the way for parasite infestation and many other things.

Personally, I would relocate it, feed it mainly a diet of crickets & greens/veggies and see if it's stools go back to normal. If they're still runny by the end of the 2nd day or 3rd day, off to the vet.

You should also offer it water from a dropper or soak it a few times over the next few days to ensure it stays hydrated.

Hang in there!
