too big? food question

FatScales Nov 14, 2007 12:59 AM

The fuzzies I picked up yesterday were a little larger than normal-didnt notice at first glance, I have a sonoran gopher and a snow bull they are both a little over one foot, gopher is slim-bull is bulky. compared to a fully grown mousethe fuzzies were a little more than half the size, I was worried about my snakes regurge because they have been eating smaller fuzzies, Should I be worried?

It is hard to say without seeing them but here are my thoughts:

If these were actually half the size of a fully grown mouse, I would pass. Those would be way too big. Those sound like weaned to small adults.

However, take a good look at the snake's widest part of their girth of their body. Are the fuzzies you are describing much bigger than that biggest part of their girth? If not, then I would think it would be safe to feed to them. If they are really astronomically big compared to the snake's girth, to the point where it makes you feel uneasy, then perhaps error on the side of caution and get some of the normal sized fuzzies you are used to feeding them. Although pits can take down some good amounts of food, hatchlings I would be more cautious about, and sometimes regurge really can hurt them.

Take care!

The midsections of the fuzzies were much wider than both the snakes, both are doing ok today but im going to wait two weeks befor another feed, and get some smaller fuzzies, the larger ones are going to my python.
