A couple Rat snake questions

SneakySnakesINC Nov 14, 2007 07:30 AM

I recently bought a yellow rat snake, and an albino black rat snake. I'm completely new to rat snakes, and I can't find too much info on the net...

What are the right temps for these guys? and how much/if any humidity do they need?

I have UTH for both of them, and they both have a nice sized water dish, will this be enough?

Thanks!

Start with captive corn snake care, and then refine it as you learn more about those specific species. An UTH will work if it's giving you the appropriate temperatures. The black rat will dwarf most other american rat snakes, so be prepared. They are also rather arboreal and are often found high up in trees and barn rafters ect.

My UTH seems to be doing perfectly in providing the right temps, I check them all daily. The black rat already dwarfs all the other snakes I own, including my fairly large bullsnake by about a foot.

both of the rats also have several climbing branches in their enclosures- these guys are a lot more active than the other species that i keep.

Thanks for the reply!
