DAILY NATION (Nairobi, Kenya) 09 November 07 Tortoise rescuers were treated badly
I was saddened by the story about two men who found a tortoise near the railway line in Nanyuki Town (DN, November 7).
The two took the tortoise to a shopkeeper, who offered them a cup of tea in exchange for the animal. While they were enjoying the tea, he called the police and the two were arrested. They were then taken to court and fined Sh8,000 each.
These men did not deserve that kind of punishment.
Please, tell me if these reptiles should be left to be runover by motorists or rescued? We need to know before we land in jail.
