State laws

robbiecrabtree Nov 14, 2007 11:15 AM

This is probably a question that has been answered often already, so I appologize in advance.

Is there anywhere that I can find the current venomous reptile laws for each state in the country? Has anyone researched this and could you post the info or email it to me?

I have had my florida license for 15yrs and am now thinking of moving to another state...

Particularly interested in the laws of N.Carolina, S. Carolina, Tennesee, New Mexico, Colorado, Montana.

Thanks,
Robbie

Here's one list. I know there have been significant changes recently in Washington that haven't made it into the list yet.

Thanks! This is exactly what I was looking for.
If anyone knows of changes or inaccuracies on this list, I would appreciate hearing about them.

I see georgia says exotics need permit.. but I also know that they make it nearly impossible to get the permit.. so any info like that would be nice also.

Looks like they haven't gotten Iowa's changes yet either-the newspaper had an article that the new law banned all venomous, as well as most large constrictors-Retics, African rocks and anacondas were listed specifically but I still haven't found out for sure on scrubs and Burms. The funny thing is, they actually saw a reason to ban elephants as pets--This is actually a problem??

Thanks Ryan, we just picked up a group of streckeri from a guy in IA due to this legislation. He was supposed to email me and let me know when it actually was going into effect so that I could make the changes on the site.

I don't think the law's actually in effect yet, one of the local sheriff's deputies had to shoot an escaped pet tiger last night, and the newspaper article that I read said Chickasaw County doesn't have any laws on exotics, nothing was mentioned about the state level. If I find out anything first I'll let you know. According to the article the tiger involved was attacking a dog, and the owners also have a cougar and a bear.

Elephants?... You think that's bad? Rochester, NY banned the Tazmanian wolf from being kept as a pet. haha.

New York has "educator permits" witten into their laws, but at this time (almost 2 years after the ban went into effect), the DEC has done nothing to promulgate any way to actually GET a permit. Unless you held a permit under their old system, there's essentially a ban on possession at this time.
