Concord grapes

StephF Nov 14, 2007 12:12 PM

For some strange reason my local supermarket had concord grapes, and considerably lower in price than other fresh berries this time of year.

Well, the juvenile turtles love them, and the added bonus is that my house smells like Welch's.

I need some grapes then.
I'd like my house to smell like Welch's too!

I finally did take my cactus berries & freeze them on a cookie sheet, not touching one another. Then I bagged them. So far so good, they have not turned to red mush!

I too have found those cheaper concord grapes in the grocery stores. We have been eating them like crazy...the little girl likes them and they are super healthy. The turtles get the wrinkly or broken berries. They don't seem to mind getting the rejects.

Steph, do you ever see scuppernongs or muscadines? They are Southeastern specials and the turtles love them too. Babies need the skins split for them. I'm going to plant vines in the pens if we ever get decent rains.

As a matter of fact....a neighbor has muscadines growing on an arbor in her backyard, which she seldom gets to enjoy herself as the area wildlife gets there first. I get volunteer sprouts in the turtle pen once in a while, too.
