Waste of Surinams

kitchi Nov 14, 2007 03:35 PM

I have been meaning to post this but have been too busy with babies. These pics are of my 9-4-07 Surinam (Futo x FLRT) litter. Nine were dead (see mid pic) when I got to them. The tenth one died in front of me (see first pic). To make things worse, the female just died recently. She was not right after birth. Something went wrong. I might have had the temps too high but her last shed was while she was maxing out in her ovulation swell and the skin could not roll past the swell and I had to cut it off. Most of the dead babies were real nice. Four are alive today (see last pic). I will post a pic of one from today.

Here is one of the live ones (mid pic) from today and a pic of the Futo mom (first pic) and FLorida Redtails dad. Both parents were litter picks. This baby is very purple/pink.

You hate to see that, I know. That's a double real shame if the Mom that died is that top pic. The good news -- That's one fine baby!
My condolence for your loss.

I think that Futo mum is possibly the most attractive boa I've ever seen.

Man, that suck, Mike. Losing that mother is a big hit. She was killer. Taking a blow like that is rough but we owe it to guys like you for producing some of the best BCC's around. My condolences.---------RON

about you losing the babies and mother. She was one of my all time favorites. I have one of her brothers if I'm not mistaken. She was born in 2000, correct?

Mark, she was born in 2000' but not sure if she was related to yours. She was from the 2nd litter born in 2000. Of the two litters, both looked similar. The male I bred her to in 2005 was from the first litter.

Sorry to hear that, especially the momma boa. This hobby has it's ups and downs, but the downs can really suck because they can involve death.

I just went through a similar situation with my biggest female amazon tree boa who got baby bound for some reason. It was litter of mostly orange and red babies, all dead and I've had to manually massage them out. At least she seems to be doing well now and has started eating again.

Good luck with any projects you have coming up and like others have said, the live ones you have are beauties!!

Billy
