Got them to Eat F/T Mice!!

latin1956 Nov 15, 2007 06:44 AM

I am so glad that my last 2 holdouts have started to eat frozen/thawed mice. I have a Het pied and a Pied both females. They would not eat unless they were live. Well I have been working with them for the last month. I stopped fedding live. I tried rat pups but no luck, that will be another challenge later. What I made sure was that the mice was really hot when I fed it to the Ball Python. They grabbed them without hesitation dangling from hemostats. Just want to share the happy moment!!!

Take care

How did you get the rodents as hot as you say? I normally would take the frozen rodents that are already in a ziplock bag. I would pace them in a tupperware with really hot water and let them sit. After about 30 mins they were defrosted, but I could not get them to be hot enough to make them all eat. Only one will eat f/t

I do the same but after they are thawed out I keep changing the water an I do this about 3 time at about 3-5 minute intervals. The mice are really warm to hot and the BP are really interested when I dangle them in front of them. They sure like the mice very warm. I got other that does not even mater they just strike right away even when a little cold.

I put the rat under my tank's heating pad for 10 minutes or so. Gets them nice and toasty.

I put mine in a ziplock and soak in hot water as well. Then right before I offer them to the snakes I blast them with the hairdryer for 10-20 secs. That gets them real warm.

I only have one hold out and that is a baby bee. I want to get him to grow so I would rather feed him live that fight to get him to eat f/t. I think I'll be able to switch him later...
