Leopard needs help!

clemmysman Nov 15, 2007 10:56 AM

Ed I know you can help with this one..

A recent new owner of one of our RF hatchlings has a friend that has been misguided ( to say the least ) about his Leopard!

The pics here will no doubt tell the story. What should he do to prevent it getting worse.. if possible. His Vet. has even told him to "manicure" his claws!

Hate to see this!

Thanks guys..

WOW Terry, that Leopard has to be the worst I have seen. Definite Metabolic Bone Disease going on there. Ive never seen a Leopard that flat, looks like the Sulcata girl I took in recently. If you can send some contact info for the owners I can definitely point them in the right direction to care for it properly. It will never look great and if taken care of better now the new growth will help but the poor thing will never look like a Leopard.

I know.. you wouldn't believe what we see and hear on our "informational" site for redfoots. AND there are soooooo few true "exotic" Vets. out there!

Since it's so humid where I am I had to "relocate" a nice group of Leopards I had raised up from 4"'ers.. a few years back. Really hated to get rid of this 13 plus inch girl.. she was like picking up a bowling ball..

As soon as I get the contact info I'll pass it on to you.

Thanks again

Proper diet, hydration, and a humid hide will help, but the damage done is permanent. If it survives the next few months, it may lead a semi-normal life, but may not have the longevity that a healthy Tortoise has.

After being approached and consulted by 2 of us.. he seems to only want to "display" his Leopard in the current "lizard" set-up.. instead of creating an enclosure that is best for the tortoise.

What can you do?
