How Long Do They Stay in Blue?

laredo7mm Nov 15, 2007 12:14 PM

My P.D. Deppei started going into blue on 11/09/07. That is when I first started to notice a slight change in the clarity of his eye caps. His eye caps were completely opaque a few days later. As of yesterday 11/14/09 his eyes were still fully opaque.

His last feed was 11/06/09, so I am not too worried about waiting until he is done shedding to feed him, but how long does it take for the eye caps to turn clear again?

This is his first shed with me, so I am just wondering what the typical Pituophis shed cycle is like. I have read that it can take 7 to 14 days for a snake to complete the cycle, is that correct?

Sounds about right, but it can vary.

I've got a bredli python that went opaque, to clear and shed all within like 5 days once- VERY strange, but the thing is an eating MACHINE!

Don't bother even trying to feed it until a day after it sheds, because it probably wont be interested.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. I am building my records on this snake and since this is the first time he has shed for me, I don't have any data to go by.

The good news is that I saw him peeking his head out of his hide today and a few hours after that I changed his water. While changing his water I moved his hid a bit to get a good look at him and his eye caps are starting to clear. I just hope he sheds when my daughter is here this weekend. I think she is more excited about it than I am. One thing for sure is that I have to save the shed for her to take to show and tell.

Thanks again.
