Mojave x Cinnamon genetics question....

DavidKendrick Nov 15, 2007 05:44 PM

Just curious...

If someone where to breed a Mojave to a Cinnamon, there could be a chance of producing a MojaveCinnamon right...One that exhibited both Mojave and Cinnamon traits right?

Now if someone where to breed one of those offspring to another Mojave Cinnamon...what do you think the outcome of that pairing would be? I have asked this before a few times...but that pairing really interests me...in that the super version of the Cinnamon would be a solid dark ball, and the super version of the Mojave is a solid light/white ball, so could there be a possiblity of producing one that exhibited both super version of the Cinnamon and Mojave in the same ball? And I wonder what it would look like? as both super versions are polar opposites of each other.....Has any tried it? I know someone has produced a Cinnamon Mojave before right? But has anyone gone for that ball that possibly exhibits both supers in one? would one cancel out the other? could it even be possible to do something like that?

I think the homozygous mojave will cancel out any color that a cinny can provide....but who knows.

I'd also expect that the super mojave would be able to take the color away from a super cinnamon just like it takes the color away from non cinnamons.

However, backing up a bit there could be any number of surprises.

Has anyone actually produced a cinnamon mojave yet and if so what did it look like? I saw an ad for an animal that was rumored to be a black pastel lavender but that wasn't confirmed in the ad.

It's theoretically possible that there could be some genetic relationship between the cinnamon/black pastel complex and the white snake complex and you would get something unexpected the first generation crossing the two (like a solid colored snake maybe).

If there have been enough crosses already to prove that will not happen then the next question is if there is any relationship between the two mutations. If they happened to be the same gene (seems less likely but not impossible without an unexpected combo) then it would not be possible to produce a super cinnamon super mojave. If they are different genes but close together on the same chromosome then it would be difficult to produce one.

Assuming that it's most likely they are unrelated and unlinked then you should be able to produce the 1 in 16 super cinnamon super mojave from crossing a pair of cinnamon mojave’s. However, if being homozygous mojave does mask the homozygous cinnamon then you might have to approach it by first producing super cinnamon mojave’s (may or may not be able to tell mojave) and from those producing the super mojave that you know has to also be super cinnamon based on the parents.

Sorry, must be tired, have no idea where lavender came from, should have read:

yeah...super cinnamon mojave x super cinnamon mojave would be the way to be sure any super mojaves hatched would be super cinnamon.

...but it might be easier/faster to raise up and breed out any super mojave hatchling males(that are possible super cinnamon)from cinnamon mojave x cinnamon mojave pairings.

...or maybe they will come out with pink and yellow polka dots.
