Numbers 1.1 2.2 etc.

houndsman Nov 16, 2007 07:59 AM

Can someone please give me an explanation on the numbers that are placed after a snake species name. For example; (Irian Jaya 2.1) What do the numbers represent? I am guessing it is a description of how they are bred. Can anyone help?

Does it have something to do with the sex of the snake?

It does have to do with the sex of the snake. 1.0 means one male. 0.1 means one female. 1.2 means one male and two females. And so on...

The first number before the period represents the number of males, the number after the period represents the number of females.

Sometimes you might see 1.2.4, which means one male, two females and 4 unsexed animals. The number after the second period represents the number of snakes of unknown sex.
