A few of you might remember me from last year, when I had a cute little banded cali king. That king is no longer with me (long story) but I recently caved and got another one.

This one's small, maybe 12", and it's a striped albino with really high white sides. Pretty sure it's a boy.

I was just wondering what you used for substrate for your smaller snakes when they're in the shoebox sized tubs. I'm keeping this guy in a tub until he's big enough to do well in a larger display type setup. I know that I'm going to use rehydrated coconut bedding in that setup, where it dries suitably within at least 24 hours, but I know from experience that in a tub it gets way too soggy and stays that way.

Will papertowels be just fine, or would the snake thrive a bit better on a substrate it can burrow into, like sanichips?

I'll post pictures in a few days when I borrow a friend's camera.
