New perspective on the "Jelly" Mutation!

ZFelicien Nov 16, 2007 12:38 PM

Jeff Schofield came up with this theory:

The "Jellies" may be Homozygous "Peanutbutters" that are 100% Het for T- Amelanistic.

Breeding "Jelly" X "Jelly" would produce a True 2x Homozygous Amelanistic-PB

This theory makes sense in my mind... it would explain why:

I. The female "Jellies" looks almost identical to a PB.

II. The "Jellies" in general have that much pigmentation.

- if it were a 2x homoZ Amel-PB
--the eyes would have been red (like a T-)
--the scales would be pink/white not lavender

should be interesting to see what pops up from Jelly X Jelly...

"Jelly" X PB and "Jelly" X T- should be interesting as well...

First, Rainer is the expert on these so whatever I say he may be able to disprove immediately. Lets think outside the box....
Lets say PB is an "incomplete" hypo gene.
That may allow for the sexual dimorphism. It also may account for "jelly" morph f2. I do think the f3 will produce true HYBINOs, but the question will be what would we then expect for the other 75% of the litter? "Normal" recessive would think you can expect 1/3 be PB and 2/3 poss dbl hets. But would these poss hets then be Jelly?
More questions than answers now I am afraid, lol. But thought another way-in a way relating them to boids(which I try to never do)...There can be red eye albino, lavender eye, and GOLDEN EYE albino--and I personally think the common HYPO floridana gene might really be that. What do you think? Just my 2 cents, dont flame me too much, lol. Jeff

"Jelly" x "Jelly"

"Jelly" x PB

"Jelly" x T-

shouldn't create any Non-morphs...

"Jelly" is produced when PB is bred to T-

Breeding the Bi-product ("jelly".) back to the parent mutations should only create more mutations...

What MAY produce non-morphs/hets/poss.hets is "Jelly" x Normal non-morph sibling...

if the Normal sibling is a carrier of the parent mutations breeding her to the "jelly" should produce... PB's, T-'s, Jellies and possibly HomoZ Amel-PB's (in theory)

When I look at the Jelly male it looks like an intermediate between the PB and the T- it is almost like the Jelly is a type of lavender and it fits into the equation as the "Bridge"

In order of decreasing pigmentation you'd have: PB==>Jelly==>T-

Topic 2.
Albinism and Hypomelanism are closely related mutations, Albino being on one end and hypo being on the other followed by the normal/non-morph/carrier.

I.
T- Amelanism==> Lavender Amelanism==> "PB" Hypomelanism==> "Hypo" *Xantism?==> Normal

II.
Normal==> "Hypo" *Xanthism?==> "PB" Hypomelanism==> Lavender Amelanism==> T- Amelanism

*The more common "Hypo" Floridana (as I've said before) seem more closely related to Xanthism, seeing as the black pigmentation is still present in this strain of "hypo"

the term "Golden-eyed ALBINO" is a little confusing, I don't understand how one would come up with it.

If I am not mistaken the entire clutches from the PB X T negative Albino pairings were Jellies. I think the two times the two morphs were bred all were Jellies except one snake, therefor speaking about het Jellies seems out of place. There's maybe two snakes from two clutches that were not Jellies, so again I have to say I don't think any of this is comparable to any other projects and like Rainer says we'll hopefully know more next season

The Non-morph Sibling is pictured above with the "jelly"

The Non-morph sibling compared to other non-morph snakes is gorgeous! but still not a visual mutation.

this pic was taken by Rainer... the snake looks unique but again it's not a visual morph

Here's a pic of a poss het "Peanut butter" Female... she's not a morph but she looks darn close to what a PB looks like... so I'm thinking she may be a VISUAL HET

I don't get why the two non-morphs produced from PB X T- would be ignored... 99% of the clutches are "Jellies" there is still the normal/non-morphs... they were produced twice in two separate seasons. same female different PB males...

I don't understand where possible het Peanut Butter comes from? They all came from PB X Het PB breedings no?

That female and her male sibling i have are from a Het PB female bred to an unknown male so this female as well as her sibling male is Poss. Het for PB and 100% het for either Hypo, Axanthic or Lavender.

BUT if i had to take a guess i'd say they may be het axanthic.

pic of the poss het PB female the day i got her:
