Help! Baby with a URI??

snake_girl85 Nov 16, 2007 02:11 PM

So I bought a baby diamond x jungle at NARBC last month, and shortly after I got him I noticed occasional clicking when he breathed. I noticed it getting a little worse so I upped his temps a bit. It's definitely gotten worse now. No open-mouthed breathing, but he sits with his head up more often, and today I noticed a little phlegm.

Will upping his temps/humidity more help with this? He has a heat gradient from 77 to like, 92, but he always stays in the coolest areas. I have no problem with taking him to a vet (there's a decent herp vet about 45 minutes away), but is there even anything they could do? I know they can give antibiotics, but how feasible is that in a 1.5 foot baby python?

I guess my question is- Is it imperative that I get him to a vet, or is there something more I can do on my own? I'm like a worried mom right now. I've never had to deal with this before...

I'm not the expert on it, but from what I've read/heard, you should lower the humidity and raise the temps for starters.

If you don't notice any change in a day or two, I'd get him over to a vet...
