Help me purchase my second leo!

Jack31081 Aug 24, 2003 08:24 AM

I currently own a female pastel leo, about a year old now. She's doin' great and I have her in a 20long aquarium with repti-carpet, plenty of hides, etc.

I'm contemplating getting another female, and housing them both in the same tank, but of course, I have a few questions:

- What age range should I look for for this new leo?
- Is my current 20long large enough for both leos (provided I have separate hides for each)?
- What sort of interactions should I expect when introducing them?
- How long should the quarantine be before I introduce the new gecko into the tank?
- What else should I know that's important?

Thanks a bunch.

you should look for another female approx the same age/size. ive seen females not accept companions unless they were taken out of their home and it was comepletly redone, add new hides, change the place of things, etc., and then put them together. ive also seen being able to add a new one without doing this. depends on the Leo. if they get along they will prob share the hides(humid) so id be sure its big enough for 2 to get into. 20 gal long is big enough for them both.

Its not so much the age. But the size I believe try to get it as close to how much she weighs and is length. So there is no fighting between them for food and space. Yes 20L gal is big enough for two. BUt I would also quaratine if you can its the best to do for atleast 1 month and thats the least rather to do this then get ure other leo sick. But when you do introduce them make sure u blach everything out in the tank and rearrange so its nutral territory for both leos so it hopefully stops the fighting. They might go and sniff and lick eachother or go their seperate ways. Just keep a close eye on them and make sure they both are getting plenty of food.

One time when I was cleaning the tank, both of my leos were walking around, checking things out. They both saw their own reflections against the glass although not at the same time, and both of them had the same reaction: sudden erect poise, tail waving, looking ready to fight. They both get along great (male and female), but I'm guessing their reaction to their reflections means they'd be very territorial if I introduced a new gecko to the tank.
