Healthy Weight for 3-toed

turtlegirl922 Nov 16, 2007 03:27 PM

Hi - I wanted to find out what a healthy weight range is for an adult 3-toed box turtle.

Thanks!

It can really depend, obviously, on the animal's total size. Three-toes can vary quite a bit across their large range. I am familiar with small Three-toes, about 5-6 inches TCL. An average would be near 400-500 grams for my animals. My females are at the upper end of the range, males at the lower.

I hope this helps.

This link gives weights and other measurements for a large number of wild study turtles.

I never weighed mine but just made sure she wasn't too fat too close her shell.

I agree with Ken... every turtle will have its own ideal weight range. It might be a good idea for you to weigh your turtle on a regular basis, and you'll probably be able to determine what is good for that turtle over time.
Bear in mind that an immature turtle will be growing and you should see an increase in weight over time, and that the weight of a mature female can swing dramatically during egg-laying season.
