Lost and found story....

lbrat Nov 17, 2007 07:25 AM

Last summer I gave a friend of mine a hatchling amel. for his daughter. The snake escaped it's 10 gallon tank through a loose screen top in his house this past January.Never to be seen again.
Just two weeks ago,I was visiting the friend and we were out in his shed which is across a gravel road and about 100 yards from his house when he looks over towards a trash can in the shed and says "hey theres my corn snake".I coulden't believe it.The snake was making it's way along the top of the trash can rim.
I recovered the snake and we both were amazed at how much size it had put on.Better yet was how colerfull it is.
Winters get very cold in Pa. and we figured the snake had lived in his house for some time before making its way outside and across then road, into the shed.We have already had a few frosts before the snake was found. It had obviously been feeding on the wild deer mice that abound the shed and was in ferfect condition.
It somehow crossed the road without being crushed by a car and went across the large lot without being picked up by one of the many crows or feral cats that inhabit the area. Here is a pick after recovery.I kinda wish I had kept it as a hold back it's that pretty!

I live in Western PA, and I've recently lost my second oldest and one of my absolute favorites, my female breeder amel corn. Gives me some hope that maybe I still have a chance of finding her.

That is a gorgeous little snake.
