I keep records for all of my snakes. Each snake has a feeding chart, shed record, breeding records, lineage info, etc. I know some breeders keep this much info or maybe even more, while others won't keep any info at all. Personally, I am more willing to purchase from a breeder who can give me more information about the animal(s) than from one who has little or no info. My 0.02.

Forgot to add an important detail, lol! Feed charts are very helpful with noticing anything unusual. Sometimes one of my snakes will refuse for several feedings in a row. I can never remember how many weeks it has been in my brain, so a feed chart helps me get a quick glance at how long it has been since it's last meal. That tells me whether or not I need to start worrying about it.

With all my snakes it's very uncommon on feeding day for every one that is offered food to eat. Without record cards there would be no way for me to know a specific individual was not eating for several weeks in a row.

i use index card and go from left to right so 14 dsays fit on one line, i stopped on the sheds, especially when you have multiples together it's hard to tell sometimes, anyways, they also have a colored detailed picture of an identifying mark on the back incase of theft.

on every snake I have both my animals and my babies for sale. I do use a half sheet version with more space for my breeders and a much smaller version for the babies, I figure I'll never fill them up all the way.

I used to use cards to keep track of my snakes, but since I plan on having quite a few more soon I am in the middle of cruelly forcing my boyfriend to write a program to keep track of this for me. (what good is dating a geek if you can't use them for stuff like this) So soon I can hit a button that will say "show me all available pairings" or something and it will give lineage info and show color and ages and any hidden traits (hets) or projects I have them in currently that I may have forgot, etc. I am very excited about this, and will make some way for this program to be available to you guys when it is perfected. I plan on having a little check sheet for feedings and check off who eats, and when someone doesn't eat for so many weeks it will alert me.

I used to keep a giant notebook with more info than could ever fit on a card. I quit using it several years ago and the big snakes don't seem to mind. Any more I let how the older snakes look and act tell me when they need to eat and if they are having any problems. I do still weight them occasionally to see trends. All of my younger snakes have a strip of wide masking tape on the outside of their container with birth date and lineage and feeding and shedding dates.

When they cannot tell you date of birth they are probably not the actual breeder. I get real tired of seeing people pretending to be breeders selling animals they got from someone else, possibly an importer.

There was another thread like this in the KS forum. I made a post,

http://forums.kingsnake.com/view.php?id=1428929,1429060

"Personally I keep all my data charts on several digital formats and prefer not to use paper. Mine is just a simple excel spread sheet, if anyone would like it let me know. Its simple so days are not accurate to months. LOL another reason I prefer digital is because I am one of those who cant understand there own writing )"
