Redfoot plastron crud - update

clemmysman Nov 17, 2007 11:53 PM

Thanks Gaby.. look at this!

Before..

After only 4 days ( so far ) of Betadine plus 1% Clotrimazole treatment..

You may recall that he had feeding issues also.. lost 25% of his weight in one month. I suggested placing him in a 10 gallon aquarium with no substrate and offer worms and crickets. That was the trick. He is now enjoying dandelion and hibiscus also.. back on track!

My friend thanks you Gaby..

Thank you very much for the update!
This is amazing progress!
I am happy for your friend, as I know how much upset a sick animal can cause, and even more so for his Cherryhead, which obviously is getting better.

Good luck for further progress,
Gaby

Hi Gaby,
One of my hatchling had a white spot on her plastron which I suspected to be a fungal infection (not the one in my previous post, in case you saw it). I used 2% miconazole nitrate and povidone iodine after reading your post. It disappeared like magic. Thank you so much. Just wanted to let you know that you saved another tort..

I am happy to hear that!
Good luck with your little one!

I have a similar problem with my guys (they are pet store-bought). Where can I buy the chemicals that are referenced in this string? Recommendations on application?

You can get them from any drugstore. Those are antiseptic germicide (betadine solution = povidone iodine) and antifungal cream (sold under names, Lotrimine, micatin, etc. anything that has 2% miconazole nitrate or 1% Clotrimazole) made for humans for athlete foot or jock itch. For mine, I used Neosporin AF, VERY small amount twice a day for 10 days.

Good luck.
