One of my male RES apparently has kidney failure. He is 9 and lives with his brother and a female. I have never had any health problems with any of my turtles before so this is quite distressing. I noticed after being away for a week when I got home he was all 'puffed up'. Trip to the vet and a blood test has confirmed high levels of urea and low levels of protein. We are giving him anti-biotics, have treated for a parasite, are about to give vitamin A & B. He is still eating and seems happy enough, but he is unable to move much other than when he is in the water. I think we are probably doing pretty much everything possible but I am wondering if anyone has had a similiar problem or knows anything about kidney railure in RES. I live in New Zealand and knowledge of turtles etc is very lacking - my vet is being great but he is learning as he goes. It sounds like recovery will almost be a miracle (which I am still hoping for!) Any favourable stories would be appreciated.
