Blue eyed leucy

phiber_optikx Nov 19, 2007 01:11 AM

What do you get when you breed a blue eyed leucy to a mojave?
50% Leucy 50% mojave?

It depends on what two snakes made the Lucy... i.e. Mojaves, Lessers, Het Russo's,combo of two, etc.

I'm not sure that all the combos have been made yet to be sure but the theory is that anything that would make a blue eyed leucistic with any of the other mutant versions of this gene would also make it with Mojave. There might be some variation as to how clean white the leucistic is though.

So, I would expect that blue eyed leucistic X mojave would produce 50% blue eyed leucistics and then 25% of each of the blue eyed leucistic's parents types. This is because the babies that get the mojave mutant version of gene from the mojave parent are the blue eyed leucistics. The ones that get the normal version from the mojave have only the version from the leucistic parent.

If the blue eyed leucistic was from a mojave X mojave then those two 25% would be the same so 50% mojave. If for example the blue eyed leucistic was from lesser X Vin Russo high yellow lemon then I would expect the non leucistic offspring to be 25% lesser and 25% Vin Russo high yellow lemon.

let's assume we are using a lesser x mojave lucy breding that to a mojave female. The problem when doing this we have to assume that when breeding lesser x mojave lucy to anything no normal can be created since from what has been proven the cross lucy's don't carry a normal gene and have to either pass the mojave or lesser trait to offspring. with that said you will get in theory 50% lucy (either super mojave or lesser x mojave lucy and these would be very easy to tell apart). The other 50% would be a mixture of lessers or mojaves. This ratio goes away if somone produces a normal or a lucy from breeding a cross lucy and gets alot more complicated.

So if I breed a blue eyed leucy (super mojave) to a mojave I get 50% leucy and 50% mojave... right?

Also, would a mojave x mojave be 50% leucy and 50% mojave?

Lucy (Super Mojave) X Mojave = 50% Lucy, 50% Mojave
Mojave X Mojave = 25% Lucy, 50% Mojave, 25% Normal

But remember those are the odds for each individual egg, and by no means a guarantee of what you will hatch.

I am well aware. Odds can be a funny thing. This year my odds were actually dead on with corns though. I bred a snow het stripe to a snow het stripe and out of 8 eggs I got 6 snows and 2 stripe snows.
