you actually want the ground temp where they lay to be 85-90. the ambient temp should be fine as long as not to hot

how do you get it that hot with JUST a UTH?
Thanks

if your house is comfortable to you its probably fine, they absorb heat from the ground thru their bellies. If your worried its to cool during the day, set your lamp, id use red heat bulb, on a timer for around 12 hrs a day

A UTH can get your tank warm enough just fine. If anything, you should be worrying about it getting too hot. Instead of measuring the air temp of the tank, measure the surface of the tank floor at both ends. The hottest spot (right where the UTH is) should be about 88-90 degrees. The coolest spot on the other side of the floor should be lower 80s.

air temp won't matter much (it should be above 70 tho) as long as the floor of half the tank is between 85-91 degrees. 88-90 being the optimal temps. i use heat lamps to increase the ambient air temp but it is optional.
