Feeding Leopard Gecko's - Meal worms/pinky mice

purselst May 22, 2003 02:33 PM

My sister recently gave me her Leo. which is about a year old - she's only ever fed it crickets. I was wondering if it's too late to try feeding meal worms or pinky mice? Please advise.

Variety in food is always healthy, so long as you make sure the staple diet remains a good diet. All the leo's I've ever seen have enjoyed pinkies, as a matter of fact, all of mine go nuts when they smell them come into the room. Mealies, super-worms, silkworms, can all be used as a staple diet so long as your leo will accept it. Wax worms and butter worms are treats, that can become addictive. So be careful.

Its never too late to introduce new food items to their diets =) They should always have a variety, as said in the previous post. With the pinky mice, they are pretty fatty, so its best to just give him one pinky every 3 weeks or so. and waxworms are fatty too, so if you have em, a couple a week will do good.
