update on GODZILLA

m8r8j Nov 19, 2007 04:36 PM

ok so my new iguanas name is godzilla, i finally decided. im pretty sure that hes used to his new habitat. i was scared because he didnt really eat too much and didnt poop yet, but when i got home from work today there was a stinky huge turd. that was probably the happiest ive ever been over a poop. anyway i dont think hes eating too much but after all he is kind of small. i think he only ate a few bites of food today, and im pretty sure all he ate was carrots. i noticed a large lump on his side, which is probably the chunk of carrots he ate. before, i blended his food up into a paste but now i put a bunch of different things on a plate for him to choose from. strawberries, dandilion greens, butternut squash, carrots, alfalfa, and green beans. i think all he cared for was the carrots. i just left the bowl in his cage anyway. i know that i need to buy him a bigger cage, and i plan on doing that this weekend. was thinking 55 gallon tank to hold him off for a couple months so i can build him one. anyone know prices on these? any suggestions/comments GREATLY apprieciated. thanks.

yes- i have an ig that you can pick up and carry around and she wont wake up. its funny.

as for the tank- you're looking at a bit over 100 bucks probably.... and are you willing to spend that much and in a few months spend that much if not twice that again...?

I would super- save and go ahead and get a very large cage- if you have to go with a tank (ugh)- BIGGER BIGGER BIGGER!! LIKE A 100 GALLON or BIGGER BIGGER BIGGER.

I think you could make a pretty decent cage out of wood and hardware mesh- that hard mesh- not window screen- that crap is worthless....
I would go with wood- like 1x2 and 1x6.... we just used those sizes and a few others- like 2x4's and stapled the hardware mesh onto the wood and then put another piece over the staples and the sharp edge and screwed it all together.

We made several very nice looking cages with this method- we used the hardware mesh that is plastic coated- its a bit more expensive...

but to get more bang for your buck and give your little guy more room- and it will save you a lot in the long run AND get you ready to build your next huge-o cage...

good luck
