spider or pin to an axanthic

MannyRottie Nov 19, 2007 08:16 PM

if you had a female axanthic, would you breed her to a male spider or a male pin? Or should I purchase a 100% het axanthic male? Any suggestions? Thanks

Why not breed her to an Albino or 100% het Albino male and shoot for Snows? You dont see too many of these... Its personal taste at the end of the day. Or if you are trying to make money, the double recessives would draw more I believe.

The snows are a cool idea, but I wanted to get a pin axanthic or a spider axanthic. That is my goal. Is breeding the axanthic female to a male spider gonna give me a spider axanthic. ( a black and grey spider basically)?

Axanthic is recessive - you'll need to breed it to something carrying the axanthic gene to get more axanthics - you could breed it to the spider hold back a spider het axanthic offspring and breed that back to the Axanthic for a shot at spider axanthic.

Yeah it would take a few years but could you imagine 4 or 5 hatchlings that would hatch out the way I'd like. Would totally be worth it.

Nope, it woud be a two part process. Breed the Pin/Spider to the visual Axanthic female, then breed her son back a year or so later... Thats why a recessive, breedable female is such a valuble commodity. It cuts 2-3 years out of a breeding plan when dealing w/a recessive. I think anyhow?? I am 5 JD & Cokes into it, so dont hold me too anything...LOL!

I am more of a vodka dude myself but I think you are correct.

I say pick up a male albino or het, and a female spider or pinner (I prefer the pins & they are worth slightly more) Breed the male to both females and then breed the offspring. This way you could get spiders, spider axanthics, eventually snows, spider snows, albinos, and albino spiders..... Just my 2 cents.

An axanthic pin and an axanthic spider both are amazing! You will not be disappointed either way you go.
