rammstein892003 Nov 19, 2007 10:15 PM

Hi Ive posted before about my beardie and everyone told me to go to the vet well i need a second opponion because the vet didnt know if the the liquid calcium didnt work. My bearded dragon Hiei has the tremors, shakes, like he has parkensons and drunk. Im really worried any ideas? he is about 3 months old 6-7 inch in length.

sounds simple- I've had several do this when they first come in

Go get some unflavored pedialyte and put it in a decent size water dish- big enough to put the whole lizard in. and put him in it....

See what happens...

hi
http://www.herpvetconnection.com/
i dunno if youre veterian have expirience with reptiles.
many say they do but they dont .
shaking tremors is lack of calsium caused by not good uvb/uva.
r parasietes they eat all the calsium .
what kind of uvb/uva light do you use?
looks his fecal steady and not runny r smelly?

I don't understand your post. Did you try the liquid Calcium? When I take them in I usually give them a calcium injection followed by the liquid calcium. Of course the UVB and husbandry need to be correct too.

I've never heard of the Pedialyte soak before. What is the objective? To get him to drink it? You think he is dehydrated? Your thought is it will absorb through his skin? I am not critizing just curious what your results were and your hypothesis.

Hi i have all the right lighting and its all brand new, yes the vet did give him the shot then i am giving him the liquid calcium. his poop looks normal but isnt poop supposed to smell? and what type of parasite absobs the calcium he could have that. i was thinking he had a difiency where he couldnt use the uvb light but is getting the right amount of calcium. thanks for the replys i just want to get him better.

ps whats soaking him going to do??? just wondering

100 % of the beardies we get in the rescue are severely dehydrated, they're skinny and they SHAKE like crazy.

We do an injection calcium on most and liquid calcium on all. We give them pedialyte b/c of the electorlytes and the hydration.

The people we get beardies from don't generally even offer water to thier beardies- no water dish ever- no soak in the tub- ever. When they hit that water- they start drinking.

so -
uv lighting, proper diet (no flippin' lettuce!!!), and offer them a drink-
to this day (after many, many years) we have only lost one beardie- and that was in the car on the way to the rescue.

I have had great success with that method- obviously and thought i'd share...

and finding a QUALIFIED vet is important too.

getting him hydrated won't hurt... and poop does have a smell, it should smell like well..poop.

tremors, trouble walking etc can be caused by more than just MBD, it can be neurological, heat stress, genetic defect, late stages of adenovirus, poisoning or toxic reaction to something. If your vet you took him to is clueless, then find another vet who is experienced with reptiles. Call around.

Did this vet do any tests? Bloodwork, x-rays etc? OR did he just stick him with needles and gave liquid calcium? Bloodwork will allow a lab to check for many things, such as white blood cell count, infections, toxins etc. X-rays can show bone density, growths or injuries, spinal defects, gout, etc.

B22 posted a good link for finding reptile specializing vets in your area. If too far, talk to the vets in your area, they may be willing to contact the experienced vet and share findings..lab work etc.

well i did use that to find the vet that i went to, he said that he was to small for xray and to draw blood he did say to drop of his poop for testing. does that sound right or can he do the test ??

PHLdyPayne Nov 20, 2007 06:02 PM

blood can be difficult to get from reptiles but an adult dragon shouldn't be impossible to draw blood from. Definitely can still do an x-ray. A fecal is what he is going to do with the poop, to see if your dragon has any sort of internal parasites.
