Personally I like papertowel better...no worries about ink on my snakes, more absorbent, and if they spill water or pee all over the place, the dry parts of the paper towel wipe up the mess way easier than newspaper.
Target and Walmart both sell papertowel for pretty cheap. I use newspaper in a pinch, but papertowel is much easier for me to clean and keep humid (been dry here lately) than newspaper.

Just make sure you keep an eye on them if you are using paper towels. I keep all my babies on paper towels and one time had one grab a rat just right during feeding time to where she got the paper towel as well. She had swallowed about 90% of the towel before I noticed. I did manage to pull it out, but if she would have got that last little bit down I think I may have lost her.

That's all I use. I buy unprinted newspaper in pre-cut stacks from ULINE. One $64 stack has lasted me over a year now, and it works great -- I always know when they've eliminated, no risks of feeding on it, no ink smears, no overly humid environment, I like it a lot. You can also get unprinted newspaper from your local newspaper company -- they sell end-rolls that they can't use for like, $2. I used these when we lived in Texas and one end roll lasted me 4 months with 10-15 snakes.

i get the end rolls as well- no ink. The newspaper here donates more to us than we can possibly use. I have about 20 rolls out there- we use it in all our cages and we have an average of about 30 animals at any given time so... thats a lot of paper!
check with your newpaper "people" and see if they will give you or sell you the end rolls
