Frozen mice question

wolfwoman Nov 20, 2007 10:00 AM

Hi,
I had problems with my refrigerator last week and had to replace it. I had some frozen pinkies in the freezer, but it stopped freezing so the mice were very cold but not frozen for about 3 days. Then while actually replacing the unit, they were out at room temp. for almost 3 hours. Now they are frozen again, but I am not sure I want to use them. Would you?

Unfortunately, if it were me, I would write those off as a loss. It may be going a little overboard, but I don't refreeze anything. Given that they were not frozen (even though they were cold) for several days and then out at room temp for several hours I would be hesitant to feed any of them out. Just my thoughts.

Thanks, I am going to throw them out. I don't want to take any chances!

I agree with Rob. I had a similar situation (roommates accidentally left them out for a few hours...), and my snakes all refused to eat the pinks, which I took to mean that they were no good.

$20 down the drain, but at least I don't have sick hatchlings...

This is why you keep a lizard. Always nice to have a garbage disposal. Small monitors and even I would imaine a beardie in the wild eat carian. So a "iffy" mouse I see as no trouble for them.

I'm a lizard person by nature. As a kid I had 4 waters from 7' 4" to 6' and 12 others. That would be over kill, but I guess this was my chance to tell people to buy a lizard. Break teh rules, live a little. Snake people can have fun with lizards too.

OK OK just having fun, please no hate emails.

Happy Turkey day

Yes, a lizard would be nice, I've always liked beardies.
But I just like the easy care of my corn snakes too much!
You have to feed a lizard every day! : )
I travel a little too much right now, maybe one day...
Thanks for your input.
