question about spider gene

teaspoon Nov 20, 2007 02:30 PM

I don't know if gene is the right word for it, but I heard that the spider morph is equally dominate to a normal pattern in ball pythons. It that true? So lets say I breed a spider male and a normal female, what percentage of the offspring would be spider?
Thanks, t-spoon

When a spider is bred to a normal the offspring percentage is 50% spiders and 50% normals. However, that is on a per egg basis. So each egg has a 50/50 chance for being either spider or normal. So, you could end up with a clutch of all spiders and you could get all normals. You can never tell what you're going to get. That's what I like about this hobby, lots of anticipation. Hope that helped
