Breeding Rats Outdoors

omerfriedman Nov 20, 2007 09:23 PM

I live in the South Bay Area, CA and I breed rats in my garage. I heard people talking about how they breed rats outdoors (in snowy weather) or even that poeple have tried to freeze rats live and they survived. does anyone know anything about rats ability to breed in cold weather and if putting my racks outdoors will mess anything up?

thanks in advance

i think it slows their productivity down or even stops it, i have 2 rat and 3 mice tanks out in my garage now, they have shredded up material(old cotton shirts etc) and newspaper, these are too young to breed but way weaned, i bring them in my house into the room when i need a breeder or two. I've only had problems when it gets too hot, they can't sweat, they get all wet on their bellies and some have died, but i bring them in if it gets too cold or too hot. Its 45* in the mornings now here in N calif. During the day its alot warmer.
