Red Albino comparison pics

mdc Nov 20, 2007 10:19 PM

Here is a nice stripeline albino with two red albinos born in this years litter. I've heard a lot of talk lately about people naming albinos something special even though they are just slightly above average albinos. I don't care what other say, I think the name fits these guys, but call them what you want.

First up is a holdback female. She wasn't really in the mood for pics though.

Next up is my holdback male.

Enjoy!
Matt

Thanks Ash. It is always slow this time of year due to the big 3 shows and then the holidays. Others always get scared that the boa market is crashing around this time of year and drop their prices. To me, it is better to just wait it out. Things always pick up after Christmas.

Hey Matt, those are beautiful and clearly a notch or twelve above the stripline you showed with them. You go ahead and call them whatever you like, it is your right!!!

I posted below about the Burke Lipstick line and how it seemed to me everyone was accepting of that but didn't support anyone else doing similar. It seems to me you either accept anyone naming their line or you don't, not one person is OK vs another is not.

Thanks Dave. I originally didn't name them that to profit off of it, I only did it to differentiate between animals from that breeding and the albinos from my other litter. I didn't want people to think they were getting an albino from one litter, when it was really from my other litter.

BTW, those albinos are actually half siblings. They have the same stripeline albino father. The mom to the two red albino litters really seems to be passing on all of the color.

Sounds like a plain old good business practice to me. You have two lines of albino, one clearly more red than the other. You've applied a name to the redder one and now folks who want the redder ones and willing to pay more will know what they are getting.

So you've bred the red throwing mom twice. Amazing how this stuff just seems to pop upo out of nowhere. I love selective breeding!! Just think how much better a couple of generations could make the line!!

Yeah, the mom came from Barry Berg. He bred an albino to a very dark red hypo in hopes of making the best sunglows out there. I have seen litters from other animals that came from this original het litter and they have thrown high colored albinos too. My albino has produced 4 litters in two years. The albinos from the red mom have come out very similar both years. The other two females he bred have had nice stripeline albinos, but they are similar to the yellow albino in the pic. Next year I will either breed a het son back to the het mother or I will be breeding a motley het albino to the het mom. Not sure yet.

Matt:

There is no question that your line of albino boas is one of the best available.

I am honered to have one of your hets in my collection, thanks to Brett. I am looking forward breeding her to my albino motley in a few years to produce some outstanding red albino motleys.

The photo below is of one of your baby albinos from 2006. It is by far one of the nicest looking albinos I have ever seen. I took this photo on the hood of my car remember.

All of the credit for producing this line goes to you.

Have a great Thanksgiving.

Brian

You have superb albinos! IMHO, the problem with all the subjective naming of albinos and such is in animals where there isn't that clear difference in color and quality. Your boas are quite obviously RED and it's more than just one or two animals in a litter sharing that color trait. I think you have every right to name your own line with genetics like that.

Now, some of these "coral" albinos and "pastel" albinos I see in the classifieds look no different to me than any run-of-the-mill albino. Sure color may develop down the road, but unless it is a well-known breeder and/or line, who really knows? I purchased an albino recently of unknown bloodlines and she was labeled "high pink color," which she certainly has and I think that is proper labeling in a scenario like that.
