Breeding in shed female suggestions

python2000 Nov 21, 2007 06:47 AM

I got almost flamed in another forum saying i tryed to put a female that was in shed with my spider male for to attempt breeding. Everyone is saying it is a basical rule to wait the female to shed before putting her with the male and that sperm may come out during shed making the breeding not successfull. Here (and talking with other experienced people) seems it's fine and i saw pictures of breeding balls who were in shed, females mostly.

I'm interested in your opinon regarding this theme.

Thank you

Flavio

I wait until they come out of shed. I don't know if it's a rule, but it's what I do.

Both my males and females seem unwilling to hook up while in shed, so I don't waste time putting them together during a shed cycle.

The Barker's actually recommend putting the males with females that are in shed. Their thoughts were that it makes it easier for the male to control the female. With my snakes, I have had good luck doing this. If the male is in shed, however, he seems unwilling to breed. If you get flamed again, refer them to the Barker's, I can't think of anyone with more experience than Dave and Tracy.

Bottom line, do what works for you.

I put my females in while they are in shed.

Don't believe everything you hear and forget the self proclaimed experts (AKA Flamers). There is absolutely nothing wrong with breeding females in shed. I do it all the time and have for years. Don't just take my word for it, in their new book the Barkers even advise breeding females in shed.
