Better with age?

TamiLynne Nov 21, 2007 05:29 PM

Hi folks..
I have a 3 year old, very healthy, very normal male ball python. For some reason, he seems to get prettier (more handsome?) with each shed. The boyfriend says it's an optical illusion because he goes from being all blue & grey to looking shiny and bright, but I disagree.. He seems to be aquiring more blushing down his back & his brown is turning more gold.

Has anyone else experienced this? I hear most colors grow duller as the snake grows. Maybe I am just seeing things..

Your boyfriend might be right, or you might be right. Take some pictures and compare them to the snake a year from now. Only way to be 100% sure!

I have two normal babies that are getting better as they grow older. The best example is Dot -

After hatching:

At roughly 2 months old:

At about 6 months old:

Now! (10 months old):

Best way to follow a snake's development is to take pics as they age!

I just like an excuse to show off my baby, lol.

The best way to monitor color changes, etc, is to take a picture on the exact same background with the exact same lighting. I wish I had thought to do this with Dot, but hey, at least next clutch I'll know to do it.

Good luck!
