update ... plus some questions.

good news! my baby iguana ate a ton of food today!

then after work i went out and bought a huge tank for him...

should i wait before i put him into it since hes new in his tank as it is?

and i bought one of those zoo med coil heat bulbs (kind of like a stove top) is this sufficient for an iguana for both day and night?

the mixture of food he ate and apparently enjoyed was: dandelion greens, butternut squash, carrots, and strawberries.. i found out he does not like green beans or alfalfa.

thanks in advance, mike

less veggies- MORE GREENS!!!
The diet we give our igs is just like you would make a salad-
A TON OF GREENS (not lettuce crap) collard, mustard, etc...
with a small amount- a little less than a hand full of veggies- we give our big guys like 7 slices of cucumber/etc... (for amt. ref.)
and 3-4 slices of fruit - twice a week....

keep a log of what he does/doesnt eat as far as veggies and things...

If hes not really into the collard or mustard greens- i've had several turn thier noses up at it- you can mix it with a little romaine or red leaf- but not much b/c this is that lettuce crap i mentioned before...

there are several posts about this stuff....

if the coil light youre talking about is the one i'm thinking- it should be ok...

you will need to invest in an actual HIGH quality uva/uvb light- we use the mercury vapor bulbs as well as some of the zoo med lights we've had/get donated...

glad he finally ate something...

as for changing cages again- unless he's just crammed into the tank you have for him- let him be for a little while- let him eat and gain some weight for a few weeks- then change him up again. its liable to throw him off again and he'll quit eating- better have some fat first!

the ceramic bulb you got is very good for providing heat, so good job on that. Also, depending on what brand you got, it may have a 2 year guarentee, which is great.
You'll still NEED a UVA/UVB light if you don't already have one. This will probably been a large amount of money, but it is necessary for your iguana to survive.
Congratulations on your iggy eating!
You'll eventually have to upgrade the cage again, as I don't know of any tanks that are large enough for an adult iguana, but I'm sure the iggy is happy to have a bigger space right now.

What do you have in the bottom of the tank? It almost
looks like sand from the picture.

I am glad he is eating

yha.... sand?!.... its an Iguana- not a beardie right...? either way- there is a lot of controversy over sand period... i use newspaper or papertowels... much safer and far easier to clean....
