I have used a Red light in my tank for my Leo since i got her last year. 6 weeks ago the light went and the shop had only yellow ones so i bought that. After a day or so my Leo would not come out of her hide so i put this down to the yellow light. I found a store with a red one but only 40W bulb. As i live in Ireland i need a 60W for this time of year (Its a reflector bulb) but can only find yellow,blue or green. I read somewhere that Leo's are more inclined to prefer red or blue but as i had issues with the yellow one im afraid to change it to blue. The store has told me that the red ones are discontinued so my question is which colour should i use.

The reason the color red works is that Leos can't see it, thus it doesn't bother them. Fortunately they can't see blue either. Give that a try till you can find red in the wattage you need .

Actually, I believe it has been proven that it is not that they cannot see it, but it bothers them less. Much like humans can use red light rooms. I have heard talk in my years on this board that most people shy away from using the blue bulbs as a constant on situation as it seems they are more sensitive to that than the red, it seems there is more of a consensus to use blue or those UV glow ones only for brief viewing purposes.
