Black pine cage question..

LoKii Nov 22, 2007 02:04 PM

So I was wondering when my black pine grows up and becomes a adult, what is the best tank size for it? I don't have many snakes so, instead of a rack I would prefer to keep it in something I could view it in. Also if I was to get a mate for my black pine, could I keep them togeather? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have a pair of breeders that live in a cage with 30 x 36 inches of floor space. Not all snakes will cohabitate well though, as snakes are solitary by nature. Mine have two hideboxes and are fed in seperate enclosures.

Vision cages make good cages that are good for viewing. LLL reptiles sell them. I am sure that there are other vendors that make simular cages.
IMPO, I like the cages that are not made out of wood, but plastic. They hold the humidity good & generally easier to clean.

I keep my adult Bull Snake pair in a 40 gallon breeder all glass tank, and they do just fine, and even produced a nice litter last year. I also like the 30 gallon breeder- its the same foot print just with 4 inches knocked off the hight- and I have a trio of subadult bulls in that one. If you don't mind all glass cages, check out those types. Get the ones made for reptiles with the groved screen tops- these work very well. I also put a whole bag of cypress mulch for bedding in each.

Thanks for all the info. I recently found some 40 gallon breeder tanks and was wondering if these would suffice for a adult black pine or even a pair? Thanks again

I think one pair would be just fine in a 40 gall breeder, just put a whole bag of cypress mulch in it and some large clay "azalia" pots with parts of the side knocked out for shelter and they should be fine! Here is a pic of my bullsnake pair in their 40 curled up in their flower pots.
