SENTINEL & ENTERPRISE (Fitchburg, Massachusetts) 16 November 07 Police officer wrangles 4 1/2-foot, unwanted iguana from apartment (Damien Fisher)
Fitchburg: A testy iguana named Kron got a police escort out of his 43 Canton St. apartment Wednesday night.
Heather Sanders called police around 6 p.m. when the 41 2-foot lizard got out of its cage and started running around the apartment.
"Nobody wanted him," she said. "He kept whipping his tail around."
Kron belonged to a roommate who recently left the apartment, Sanders said. The roommate did not take Kron with him in the move, she said.
Sanders managed to get the irate Kron out onto her second-floor porch, where it stayed until police arrived.
Officer James McCall arrived to wrangle the lizard, according to Sgt. Glenn Fossa. Fitchburg does not have an animal control officer on staff.
Sanders said every time McCall led Kron down the stairs to try and get him into a cage, Kron got away and ran back up to the porch, whipping his tail in an aggressive manner.
It took McCall over an hour to get Kron into a crate so he could take the animal to a shelter, she said.
Fossa said McCall brought Kron to the Leominster PetCo. PetCo representatives said Thursday the store does not have the lizard.
Sanders does not want Kron back and she does not know where his owner is, she said.
