Breeding Balls Ques.

Trevid Nov 23, 2007 09:43 PM

As I read and congratulate everyone with the mating posts down below, I found my pair of normals hooked up too. My question is how long after mating should we expect eggs. Thanks. Dave.

Keep pairing them up until you see ovulation, or they stop mating - when she ovulates and lays is up to her schedule could be anytime early to mid 08.

Good luck!

I think the proper reply would be to give you the usual signs that the female is gravid. I would continue to pair them up giving the male rest and feed on the weekends until you see her ovulate. Ovulation is a mid body swell that occurs for a short time usually 12-24 hrs but can be as short as 8 hours ? Once ovulation occurs the males job is done. The folicles have been released from the oviducts where they hopefully were fertilized . They will be shelled and the embro will be partially developed inside the gravid female and hopefully when all is well she will lay fertile eggs. The time frame from first copulation to egg laying varies. I started breeding last october and curently have eggs in the incubator from these pairs. Some time frames that are somewhat reliable are ovulation to prelay shed and prelay shed to laying. Usually females will shed 21 days after ovulation and will lay 30 days after prelay shed. These time frames are general and can vary , If you miss the ovulation which happens , when she sheds you will not know if this is her prelay. One behavior that happens is the female will start to lay cool, usually around her water dish and stays on the cool side of here tub. Hope that helps? Good luck and enjoy ...........Let the hand ringing begin ....Oh Ya after that you get to wait another 60 days for the eggs to hatch. This hobby has really taught me patience ........HA HA Day 52 should I slit ?
