do you have a temp gun? my nile that died use to do the same and i didnt have a temp gun before so it might have something to do with the temps

Good call. Check the temps as well. The wattage of the bulb doesn't tell us much. Oh, and you said he "eats fine but he regurgitates his food". That means he is NOT eating fine.

ckmike1 Nov 24, 2007 07:34 PM

ok sorry to better specify he takes the food down with no problem but like i said a day or so laterf he regurgitates it.

Nile_monitorar Nov 24, 2007 07:45 PM

well then like i said before i think thats a pretty good indication that he is not digesting his food, to digest his food he needs the right temps, once again do you have a temp gun?

How RECENTLY did you purchase him?
How big is he?
What are you feeding him, and what size?
Temps?
How often do you handle him?
Pic?

ckmike1 Nov 24, 2007 07:58 PM

how long-a month(from lll reptile)
how big-9"
temp-89-90 degrees
size of food-pinkies and 3/4" crickets
handling-15-20 mins. every three to four days to check him out physically.
sorry no pics as of yet.

Nile_monitorar Nov 24, 2007 08:28 PM

80,90 degrees throught the cage but how about his surface basking temp? if you do not have one and our measuring the temps with a thermometer you can get one at www.proexotics.com they are a must if you are keeping a monitor or any other reptile

I would suspect it is regurgitating its food because its stressed out. Provide some places to hide...real places where he can squeeze in tight and not be seen. Leave him alone and let him adjust to his new environment.

Best of luck to you.

Every time I read these type of post I think, too hot, no real cool side.
Needs to be able to heat up as well as cool down.
Low basking temps.
Like nile said get a temp gun, get the basking "surface" temps to 130f.
Kept in an aquarium with a screen top.
Handled alot and very stressed.
Like Holy said, leave it alone and give it lots of places to hide, the tighter the better.
If the critter aint keeping it's food down, you have husbandry issues.

you posted in the ball forum how your same show acquired balls are regurging too.

there are a couple of issues here. number one, buy better quality animals from better quality sources. period.

two, know the proper husbandry BEFORE you get the animals. in neither forum have you mentioned WHAT your husbandry and setup is. all suggestions are moot without this info.

your post has been made 10,000 times before, so this is not exactly a wild guess, your setups and husbandry are poor and insufficient, particularly when it comes to temps.

you probably have significant parasite issues as well, those will require a vet visit, a fecal, and appropriate meds.

check out our site for care info and our monitor FAQ. get a copy of the Savannah monitor book by Bennett, and the Ball book by McCurley. get a temp gun, get your setups where they need to be, and learn about proper husbandry.

you may be able to turn these animals around, but you have already dug yourself a huge hole by NOT being ready beforehand.

best of luck.

LLL typically sells good quality reptile show animals.

you are still going to need a vet visit, and most importantly, great husbandry.
