Where do you keep your feeders??

jusmebabe Nov 24, 2007 10:26 PM

I was wondering if anyone here keeps mice in the freezer. I live in a condo and buying a mini freezer for my mice and rats wouldn't really be feasable.
I hate paying 2.99 for a tiny adult mouse or a pup.
So is it safe to partition a place in my fridge and keep them there? I only have 10 snakes so I wouldn't need the whole fridge.
Any feedback welcome.
Thanx

Yes I keep all my feeder rodents in the freezer and I'll soon be switching over to a 7 cu ft chest freezer since my rodent requirements are exponentially growing

I would recomend against using the refridgerater part of your fridge/freezer for anything other then 1-2 day storage. Mainly because I don't know how long they last there. If you keep your rodents in sealed containers(prefferably vacuum sealed) they will keep for 9-12 months in the freezer.

Personally if you cannot find feeder rodents locally for about a dollar or less per mouse I would order frozen ones online. Even with the increased price of a small order shipment you will save alot if your alternative is paying over a buck a mouse. ideally if you can find other reptile keepers in your area you could arrange to go in together on a order to cut the shipping cost by placing larger orders.

Hope this was helpfull.

Sean.

Thanx Sean . I wasn't going to keep in the fridge section but freezer. I have been looking at online shippers that's why I was inquiring about keeping them in the freezer and not contaminating my food.
I guess only thing left to do is get an oder ready.
Thanx again Sean.

They will not contaminate your food if you keep them in the freezer.

oops
I see where you said 10 snakes.

I was just going to say it isn't worth it for one or two snakes but 10 definitely starts to make it worth ordering frozen.
You just need to make sure you order enough to cover the cost of shipping.
If you order 50 pinkies and end up paying $35.00 to $50.00 for shipping your aren't saving anything.
